About us

Lucy and Tim Heil are the owners and managers of Flatwoods Farm. Lucy's background is in business; and Tim has taught physics and astronomy on the university level for the past 29 years. Now doing something completely different, we enjoy growing plants, being outside in the dirt and trying to meet the challenges of organic farming. We were certified organic on July 10, 2008 by DPI at Clemson University.

We have spent much of 2009 upgrading our facilities including building a barn with two walk-in coolers and fencing our main field, the Upper 40. One cooler is kept at 55 degrees for tomatoes and another at 38 degrees for other produce not as sensitive to cold. We have been graced with two fantastic interns this summer: Adam Smith and Bryan Dodd.
